Early Christian Scriptures I

Lila de Waal is a diaconal minister in the ELCiC and holds a Masters of Theological Studies from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Saskatoon. She currently serves in Parish ministry in Lac La Biche, AB along with her husband.

This course invites a careful reading of all the New Testament writings, as well as some other examples of early Christian literature. The study begins by exploring the different kinds of literature early Christians wrote - letters, sayings-collections, etiologies, hymncollections, apocalypses, and testimonies. The next set of texts for study illustrate how early Christians combined and edited such materials in shaping longer documents. Our literary concern is with appreciating the layers of meaning that have been created within the text in its present state, while our historical concern is with identifying the issues that their first Christian readers were having to face.

Available for undergraduate level credit (3 cr.) through St. Andrews College, Saskatoon, SK

A Vision for the Church: Being a Safe Place for the Dangerous Kind

Rev. Michael Bradley is the president of The Master's Institute. He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, CA with a Masters of Divinity. Mike brings over 30 years of leadership experience in Christian ministry, having served in a variety of ministry positions and functions in both para-church and congregational contexts. Mike has a passion to see leaders being equipped to faithfully serve the Lord and His Church with vision, daring, and integrity in today's ever changing cultural and world scene.

Rediscovering and growing to become a safe place for the dangerous kind is an important key to being effective in carrying out our God-given mission; that mission being to take the unconditional, unshakable, outrageous love of Father God, and the gospel of His Kingdom, into an emerging, post-Christian culture in the West and to all ethnic people groups in the world.
