Our Conviction

Below, Please read the CLBI response to the 2009 ELCA decision to ordain homosexual pastors.

As a Lutheran discipleship training school that is Biblical, confessional and evangelical, CLBI is deeply saddened and appalled at the recent decision of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to approve the ordination of practicing lesbian and homosexual pastors of their church. The authority of the Bible as the Word of God and the clear teaching of the Christian Church throughout the ages, in our opinion, have been rejected with this decision. We cannot agree with what they have done.

Although CLBI is not directly affiliated with the ELCA, being an independent school of the Bible, the ramifications of this decision will undoubtedly be felt throughout the church in Canada and around the world.

By the Grace of God, the Canadian Lutheran Bible Institute:

  • Will continue to stand upon the authority of the Word of God as our unerring guide for faith and living.
  • Will continue to stand within the clear Christian tradition of the Church around the world and throughout the ages.
  • Will continue to proclaim Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord to the glory of God the Father based on the finished work of the cross.
